It is our intent to demonstrate an ongoing and determined commitment to improving health and safety at work throughout our company.
We will ensure the health and safety at work of all our workers and any other persons who may be affected by our work activities. To achieve this we recognise that we will comply with all of the relevant requirements of all applicable health and safety legislation.
We will be a leading member of our industry locally by promoting the importance of sustainable health and safety performance and complying with all Health and Safety Executive and Industry guidance.
This policy reflects our commitment to ensuring that health and safety at work is paramount to our business and that effective health and safety actively contributes to our success.
To achieve these aims we will ensure that all of our workforce and anyone who may be affected by our work will have an awareness and understanding of health and safety hazards and risks that affect our business.
Adequate resources will be provided to ensure that all of our workforce, sub-contractors and others will be made aware of our policy and our commitment to its effective implementation.
There will be active open and 2 way communication and consultation between our entire workforce, sub-contractors and anyone else whom our work affects. This will include health and safety as an integral part of this communication.
Roles and responsibilities for health and safety will be defined within the health and safety responsibilities section of this policy including the Directors which will specify their management behaviour and demonstrate their commitment.
We will identify all of our workplace health and safety hazards, in the office, workshop and on site and identify appropriate control measures to reduce the level of risk. We will communicate these hazards, risks and controls to all relevant persons and effectively monitor their compliance.
We will require our sub-contractors and clients to identify to us any health and safety hazards that may impact on our work activities.
All of our workforce will be adequately instructed and trained on the health and safety issues that affect them, and the safe working practices that should be followed. We will also ensure the health and safety competence of our sub-contractors.
We wish to establish an effective standard of behaviour and safety culture. To achieve this senior management will demonstrate leadership in health and safety. Senior management will undertake inspections and site tours to ensure that health and safety issues are identified, assessed and managed. Systems will be in place and people will be empowered to raise health and safety concerns with management.
It is our aim that all our work activities achieve compliance with legislation, and our people are empowered to take action to minimise health and safety risks.
To achieve compliance we will report and investigate accidents, incidents and near misses to drive improvement in our health and safety management. Any lessons learned from such events will be used to take corrective action to prevent recurrences.
We will actively and openly measuring performance, by reviewing and reporting on our health and safety performance against industry objectives and targets. Improvement plans will be developed to support the delivery of these objectives and targets.
To support our approach to health and safety outlined in this policy we will implement management systems to ensure we comply with health and safety legislation and continually improve our health and safety performance.
We will engage and collaborate with our sub-contractors to ensure that their health and safety capability and competence fulfil our expectations. This will include health and safety performance monitoring of their performance and reviewing the impact of their work activities have on our work activities.
We want East Fife Joinery Ltd to be recognised for excellence in the way it manages health and safety. We will develop innovative health and safety practice and we will constantly encourage, develop, review and share health and safety good practice, both internally and externally.
We will only work with sub-contractors and clients who are willing to meet and achieve our health and safety expectations. We will engage and influence stakeholders to drive improvements in health and safety.
We will assess our occupational health risks. All our people will be informed of the occupational health risks that affect their work. We will take action to prevent, reduce or control occupational health risks to an acceptable level and reduce the potential for ill health, including assessing all our people’s fitness for work. Health surveillance will be conducted to satisfy health and safety legislation.
Our policy will be delivered by generating a culture that does not tolerate threats to health and safety; and ensuring the real involvement of all our people, the sub-contractors and clients.
